L-shaped, not more than 7 feet high. [Kara Feely listening] (Kara Feely/Travis Just) 50'44 no title: piano and piano (Travis Just) 79'20 no title: piano and piano and piano (Travis Just) 79'36 "L-shaped" is a realization of a sound installation put on in Podewil, Berlin as part of a series of events loosely based on Franco Evangelisti's Die Schachtel and organized by labor fuer musik:theater eV. Interviews were conducted with Avi Glickstein, Vanessa McDonell, Jeremy Woodruff, Frank Eickhoff, and Susanne Matsché about rooms they remembered from their past (below). Each interview contains silences of varying lengths (10", 30", 1', 2') that occur at predetermined points. The recordings were played back simultaneously, each on a separate device. AG: the sanctuary from his father's (a rabbi) synagogue. VM: the bedroom she had as a child. JW: the living room from old friends of the family. FE: a room in the basement of his old house. SM: the apartment she rented in Moscow. Accompanying the interviews is a mix of five recordings of our living room in Brooklyn, NY at different times of the day and in different states of occupation: afternoon working, morning coffee, evening doing dishes, afternoon cat-play, after midnight (first snow of 2005). no title: piano and piano is the 25th Goldberg Variation (JS Bach) played over the course of just under 80 minutes, or 2'30 per measure (no repeats). Accompanying it is Glenn Gould's 1981 recording of the same piece slowed down to the same length and run through various filters. It was recorded in 2002 and played by Travis Just. no title: piano and piano and piano is the above piece, but with two pianists, Travis Just and Brian Harnetty, playing the same part simultaneously on two old uprights.
